In 1633 when the bubonic plague was raging across Europe, the surviving population of Oberammergau vowed to perform a Passion Play every 10 years if they were spared. At Whitsun in 1634 they kept their promise for the first time, and their legacy has lived on in one of Europe's most celebrated religious traditions.

The play, re-inacting the life and death of Jesus Christ, features over 2000 performers, musicians and designers. In keeping with the strict tradition of the play, all participants are residents of the village of Oberammergau itself and the stunning performance is the culmination of years of careful planning.

Included in the package are Category Two tickets for the Passion Play (view map below), and you can choose from two accommodation options. Opt to stay at Hotel Gasthof Zur Rose in the centre of Oberammergau and make the most of the special atmosphere the Passion Play brings to the village. Alternatively, the Gasthof Ethiko in nearby Ettal is a good money-saving option and a short ride from Oberammergau by complimentary shuttle.

Itinéraire :

Day One (D)
Your tour starts at Munich Railway Station where you board your train to Oberammergau. Upon arrival you will transfer to your accommodation either in the neighbouring village of Ettal or in Oberammergau itself. 2 nights' accommodation on a half board basis is included, and regular shuttle buses link both villages. A local representative is also on hand for guidance.

Day Two (B, L, D)
The tour highlight, the staging of the Oberammergau Passion Play. Included in the tour package is a Category Two admission ticket to the play, a Passion Play programme and entrance to the Oberammergau museum. The play commences in the early afternoon and will incorporate a 3-hour break when you can relax over a buffet lunch and reflect on this unique event. In the evening you will return to your accommodation for dinner.

Day Three (B)
On the final day you will check out from your accommodation after breakfast and transfer to Oberammergau Railway Station for the return trip to Munich.

Accommodation Options
The 3* Hotel Gasthof zur Rose is situated right in the heart of Oberammergau village and is renowned for being the former residence of Passion Play director Christian Stueckl. The Zur Rose offers a traditional Bavarian atmosphere, and the good-sized rooms feature a shower or bath, WC and TV.
The Guesthouse Ethiko is an authentic guesthouse located in nearby Ettal. It offers spacious rooms, each with a shower or bath and WC, and meals are taken at a nearby restaurant. Shuttle buses (no charge) are available for transportation into Oberammergau.
