We were picked up promptly at our hotel and whisked to Giverny, where we beat the crowds and had the new garden all to ourselves long enough to take photos and be photographed alone on the Japanese Bridge. We then toured the new garden with expert commentary by our guide, Sarah, all along the way. I especially appreciated learning of how Monet himself designed and supervised the building of both gardens and his studios to maximize his painting plans and objectives. The careful arrangement of the rows of flowers in specific colors is still there and well maintained to this day. The famous lily pond was gorgeous and provides a perfect mirror if you shoot directly over it, showing the lilies and reflection of the trees and sky above - amazing! Our guide gave us a full description of the house before we entered and also was able to get us in ahead of the crowd; well worth viewing, but the gardens are the real attraction here. I was captivated by the story of Van Gogh and our visit to the last room he lived in, and where he died, as well as the very site of his suicide in a nearby field and his grave in the local cemetery. He and his brother Theo lie side by side. His story is so tragic an actually walking the ground he covered in his last days left a lasting impression. Once again, Sarah brought it all to life for us with her commentary and the tour also included a local guide who took us through the house, which is still a cafe, and the room where Van Gogh died. Sarah chose an excellent cafe for our lunch just outside Monet's house and we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal before moving on to the Van Gogh house. This was our second day-tour with a Viator contractor and they get our highest compliments. I would gladly take similar tours through Viator anywhere in the world.
We were looking forward to the giverny and Auvers-sur-Oise trip for so long! Unfortunatly there were so many tourist at Giverny monet's home it has hard to take our time and soak in the beautiful nature.
We had an hour for lunch and was a bit upset the guide did not inform us that Mone'ts grave was just 10 minute walk away. I had to find out my self after walking on the path and seeing the sign. The guide acted nice but you can tell she didn't really want to be here and made us feel like we are wasting her time.
Auvers-sur-oise was Van Gogh's resting place was memorable. Seeing where he last lived in the last two months of his life was like I was there with him.
Overall the sights were beautiful but wished we had a happier guide.
Very nice tour. My daughter and I loved the personalized tour given by Sarah. She was exceptional as a driver and as a tour guide. Treated us like family. Giverny was beautiful and the country side around Auvers sur Oise was very picturesque. Money very well spent. Will ask for Sarah of Harmony Melody the next time we do a tour in that area.
We had a beautiful day.Sarah the tour guide was excellent!.We traveled with family and 2 other guests. The gardens were stunning as was the Van Goth excursion . We all agreed this method of appreciating Monet's garden was well worth the money spent.
What a beautiful tour. We were lucky to have Sarah as our guide. She was a wealth of information and made us feel more like family than clients. Monet's garden was in full bloom, even the wisteria. Could have spent the whole day just enjoying the garden. Would do it again.
